If you have a car you would like to lookup prior to 1978, Operation is simple, enter the VIN number (17 characters, A thru Z and 0 thru 9) and click decode. On the decode page you'll see your VIN again and the position of each character, then on the bottom portion you'll see what position and characters map to what information.
